Story Behind the Song, "I've Seen"

Inspiration is nature's gift. An infinite resource.
Leaders have the ability to tap into the resource.

As I looked at my 5 year old Daughter holding hands with her friend on a class trip
I thought of innocence, trust and friendship. Unconditional.
That night I sat down at my piano and my first song flowed.
A true leader had touched the keys and sang through me.

Thirty years earlier this leader walked the earth and is now speaking from the other side.
We're still calling and asking for his words today.

"I've seen" is a conversation between the living and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
who crossed over 30 years ago.
What have we done over the past 30 years? What has he seen?
He's paved a road. What have we done to keep that smooth and passable?

He's shone the light for us, yet we still can't see the innocent children.

Since I've written the song in 1997, I've attempted to get it into the hands of
Stevie Wonder. It hasn't happened yet, but I envision a choir singing the verses and Stevie Wonder's response is the chorus.
Representing the living (us) and our crossed over leader (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), respectively.
